Floriene Cooper Mason

Savannah- Floriene Cooper Wiggy Mason died early Thursday morning, January 27, 2011 at Candler Hospital after a long illness.
She was born August 6, 1919 in Flatonia, Texas to Pearl and Hugh Cooper. Ms. Mason taught school in the Rio Grande Valley for twenty years and was extremely fond of many of her students. She had a lasting effect on their lives and numerous students stayed in contact with her after moving on from her class.
In 1993 she moved from the Rio Grande Valley to Savannah, Georgia to live with her daughter Vivian and her husband Carl Poythress who so graciously accepted her into their home and lives.
Ms. Mason is preceded in death by her late husband, L.C. Mason, her sister, Aileen Gregory and her brother, Norman Cooper.
She is survived by her children, Patricia Kristek and her husband Bob, Vivian Poythress and her husband Carl, Michael Mason and his wife Gloria, Frances Panky Russell and her husband Bob and Charlotte Gibson and her husband George. Her grandchildren include Bobby and Steven Kristek, Kim Poythress Garcia, Thomas, Michael and Stephen Mason, Melanie Edmiston and Greg Cunningham and Chris Gibson. Her great grandchildren include Brooklyn and Carter Kristek. Angel Garcia, Thomas, Tyler and Caleb Mason, Shawn and Aaron Edmiston. She is also survived by 3 great great grandchildren.
Her family will remember her as a wonderful cook, a person always willing to take in other children who needed a place to stay and she had a wonderful ability to appreciate all that others did for her. She will be missed and she will stay in our thoughts for years to come.
Graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenwich Cemetery, Father Konrad White officiating.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

I'm so sorry for your loss.My name is lorena moreno valdez i was a students of hers. She was a wonderful teacher and had a wonderful sense of humor. I remember she played a funny joke on me. I still remember her smile til this day. Just priceless. I also remember i helped her pack when she move from Mcallen to Pharr.
